Musician Participation Information
-
Members must sign up and be approved to participate as a musician. Musicians approved will be listed on our member page with a link to their personnel or professional websites.
-
This project is not designed or anticipated to generate any revenue.
-
If you agree to participate as a musician, your music and work-product will become the property of our label (Umbo Gumbo LLC) and should revenues be generated in the future, they will be applied to an existing or newly established charity focused on addressing challenges facing our planet.
-
Dave G. will initially serve as executive producer for the project and will make all final recording, mixing, and mastering decisions. If the community grows and other members wish to take on production, mixing, mastering, and/or distribution duties we will announce this as it occurs.
-
Regarding the musical approach, we would like to recreate the songs influenced by the "vibe" of the original with the same basic arrangement and song structure but with some new and unique approach that will attract the large deadhead audience to listen and join our cause.
-
We will try to collect and release the songs in the order that the Grateful Dead released their studio records.
-
Musicians may choose to work on any song they wish but may need to wait until that song is up for release.
-
Song files will be posted on this site to start with the standard of 48k 24 bit files. Song files should be named with the song, the tempo, and the instruments in the file.
-
Musicians can submit completed songs they have created in full but we are encouraging collaboration and we would prefer that if a particular instrument is needed for a song, that an existing musician member of our group be contacted to play on that version using the member contact information.
-
Multiple versions of the same song are encouraged.
-
We will utilize NoteTracks software to encourage group comments on the tracks as they evolve. https://www.notetracks.com/
-
Musisican members are encouraged to video their recording process which we can use to create videos of our project.
-
When a song has enough parts and the community agrees that it is completed, Dave G. will do a rough mix and post on this site for member comments.
-
Once the songs are ready for release, we will work with our group members to determine the best format and venue .
